Let’s Rename Dundas Street is an ad hoc organization dedicated to raising awareness and taking action on the impact of historical narrative and heritage infrastructure: plaques, monuments, historic sites, statues, and street names, on the daily lives of Torontonians, particularly Black, Indigenous, racialized and marginalized citizens.

It began as an online petition in June 2020, calling on Toronto to rename Dundas Street over the role of its namesake, Henry Dundas, in obstructing the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. The project has grown to include a website, social media accounts, and outreach programs promoting critical engagement with public memory — sharing how local colonial histories connect to global events and personalities, past and present. Its success in campaigning for a public process to rename Dundas street, has attested to the importance of history and heritage in shaping our city.
