The first innovation project “4D Chinatown,” aims to provide a new experience for people around the world to learn about the community and boost Torontonians’ interest in supporting their local businesses without going to those places in person during the pandemic. Featuring 10 videos in total, the project covers both the general history of Chinatown and the stories of representative local businesses. Viewers are able to hear the stories from each business owner as well as local historian Arlene Chan and long-time community activist Tonny Louie representing the past and present of Chinatown, with 360° view (virtual reality) videos that allows them to look around and immerse themselves in the environment – It’s just like a virtual walking tour for people who had to stay at home, and cannot dine and shop in Chinatown.
