The 2024 Public History Award recognizes multi-media and collaborative projects specifically designed to engage, challenge, and educate the public. The 25 nominees represent wide-ranging engagement with Toronto’s heritage, from short films to public art projects and history tours.
The jury assesses nominated projects based on the following criteria:
Relationship to Toronto: Does the project’s themes and content relate significantly to Toronto’s archaeological, built, cultural, or natural heritage??
Scholarship: Does the project contribute to the field of historical knowledge, draw on a diversity of sources, and provide appropriate acknowledgement of sources?
Public Education: Does the project engage the public and provide a framework for understanding history and/or issues around heritage in Toronto?
Production Value: Does the project demonstrate high production value and creativity in a way that effectively engages the general public about themes relating to Toronto’s shared past and people’s lived experiences?
The 2024 People’s Choice Award
All 2024 Public History nominees are eligible for this year’s People’s Choice Award. The winner will be announced live on stage during the October 28 event and receive a prize of $1,000. Voting is open to 2024 Awards ticket holders and Heritage Toronto donors. Voting is open until Wednesday, October 16. Vote today!
