From the spirited inception at Hanlan’s Point Beach in 1971 to the global phenomenon it is today, Toronto Pride has been a beacon of inclusivity and progress. Joy. Sorrow. Anger. Love. PRIDE: A Celebration of Toronto Pride, 1970s – Present stands as the very first comprehensive publication that illuminates the rich tapestry of the Canadian movement.

Joy. Sorrow. Anger. Love. PRIDE explores the vibrant history, activism, and sheer resilience that has defined Toronto Pride over the decades. It uncovers the city’s sometimes turbulent, but always inspiring journey, and celebrates the diverse voices and pivotal organizations that have shaped this remarkable movement. Every thread of Toronto’s LGBTQ2+ community was woven into the narrative including, but not limited to, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Black Lives Matter, Casey House, 2-Spirited People of the First Nations, and more.
