Hop on the TTC with us and discover the murals, mosaics, and designs hidden in plain sight.
Our subway stations are not just critical infrastructure for public transportation. They are also dynamic sites for cultural and artistic expression. On this tour, we’ll explore the 70+ year history of public art in Toronto’s transit landscape, from station architecture and design, to forgotten tilework of the 1950s, to the contemporary murals of today.
This emerging historian tour will be developed and led by Logan Warner, a heritage scholar and museum professional. Drawn to the lived histories of material culture, Logan has managed museum, archives, archaeology, and architecture collections for governmental agencies and heritage organizations like the Ontario Heritage Trust and Royal Ontario Museum. Logan received a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Toronto and an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Archaeology from Trent University.
Registration
This tour is provided for $8.00/person. The total cost is $10.05 (includes a $2.05 transaction fee). Please note that space is limited on our tours. You may not be able to join a tour group if you have not registered ahead of time through our website.
Accessibility
Although the TTC subway platforms, concourses, and trains have seating, we cannot guarantee opportunities to sit throughout the tour. Please be prepared to stand and walk for the majority of the tour. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions about accessibility.
There are public washrooms only at the last stop, in Cedarvale Station. The viewing deck in Cedarvale Station is accessible only by stairs.
FAQs
Our staff and volunteers will be at the tour’s starting location 30 minutes prior to each tour. Please arrive at least 10-15 minutes prior to the start of the tour to allow time for check-in. Feel free to call us at (647) 542-3450 if you are having trouble finding the start location.
Participants are required to pay the TTC fare but the entire tour will happen within “one ride”. We will not be exiting the subway system in the middle of the tour.
