North York Eats Food Tour

Date

September 15 @ 2:00 pm 4:30 pm

About the Tour

Sample the flavours of the diverse food heritage of North York, now a culinary hub for East Asian communities and businesses. Through several delicious tastings and stops where we’ll go inside local restaurants, learn how the food scene shapes identities and connects cultures in North York and at large. We will also explore how the pandemic has impacted businesses in cultural communities like North York, and how restaurants have been forced to adapt to increasing gentrification in cultural economic hubs. On this tour, taste why North York is known for its food and restaurants!

Food tastings will include:

  • Mooncakes
  • Baos
  • Milk tea
  • and more!

Your ticket cost includes the food being provided through the tastings!

All tastings will have vegetarian options but please be aware that we cannot guarantee accommodations for other dietary restrictions.

This tour will be led by Emerging Historian Jingshu Yao, a writer and a museum professional based in Toronto. Jingshu’s writing focuses on the intersectionality of identities. Her stories often centre around the themes of food, immigration, language, and queerness. Currently, she is working on a novel project about Asian queer immigrants in Toronto.
