Join us on October 13 for a special celebration of Toronto's 175th!
In 2009, Heritage Toronto is hosting a very special event on behalf of our City's 175th birthday.
This year we are delighted to have Mary Ito, host of CBC Radio's "Living in Toronto" and "Fresh Air" programs, join us as our Emcee for the Awards portion of the evening. The Heritage Toronto Awards will be followed by a one-off event that is a bit of a departure from the usual format of the William Kilbourn Memorial Lecture.
For 2009 we introduce The Great Toronto Roast, Heritage Toronto's birthday party for our City's 175th year. Hosted by Soulpepper Theatre founder and actor Albert Schultz, the evening will offer an array of guests who all have one thing in common - a love for their city. Special guests of roasters and toasters will include former Mayor David Crombie, dub poet and actor d'bi young, poet and writer Dennis Lee, journalist and author Jan Wong, with special appearances by Yuk Yuks and Second City.
Awards will be announced in Architecture, Media, Book and Community Heritage
The Heritage Toronto Awards celebrate outstanding contributions - by professionals and volunteers - in the promotion and conservation of Toronto's history and heritage landmarks. Heritage Toronto asks you to consider some of the more significant achievements, especially during 2008, and invites you to submit a nomination for the 35th Annual Heritage Toronto Awards.
We would like to hear from you! The success of this program depends 100% on the participation of the community and you are encouraged to submit a nomination for any initiative you feel is worthy of recognition - be it a leadership role in conserving the heritage of a community, a residential renovation, the on-going conservation of a natural heritage site, a book or article or a large scale project incorporating technologies that extends the life of a structure.
This year, nominations will be accepted in the following categories (please click on the following links to download a PDF):

This category honours projects that have restored or adapted buildings or structures that have been in existence for forty years or more. In addition to the quality of craftsmanship, appropriateness of materials, and the use of sound conservation principles, the jury considers how well the project meets current needs while maintaining the integrity of the original design vision.
