Frequently Asked Questions - Walks

The walking tour season generally runs from the end of April until early October. Most walks are scheduled on weekends, though we have held some walks on summer weekday evenings.

A walk may focus on architectural, historical, archaeological or natural heritage (or a combination of these) depending on the area and the theme of the walk.

The walks are free, however donations are greatly appreciated in support of the program.

Information about the walks is also available on our Walks page, or by telephoning our Information Line at 416-338-3886. The Info Line message is generally changed weekly and includes full descriptions of the walks coming up that weekend.

For information on TTC routes, schedules and service, call 416 393-4636 or visit www.toronto.ca/ttc/

Walks are researched, designed and led by volunteers from Heritage Toronto, and volunteers from partner community organizations, museums and individuals.

Reservations are not required for our walks. We recommend you show up a
few minutes before the walk gets started.

For information on volunteering, please see our Volunteer page.

The annual program has grown from 16 walks with 1,726 participants in 1994 to 42 -50 walks and 4,000 - 5,000 participants per year. Typically, a walk could have anywhere from a handful to over 80 people, depending on their popularity.

We recommend you wear comfortable shoes, bring a water bottle and dress
for the weather. Some of our walks may cover difficult terrain – please check
the walk description for the difficulty.

We hold our walks rain or shine! We only cancel walks in the event of severe weather, such as lightning storms.
